The Koolaire KYT-0500W ice maker produces 560 pounds of ice per day, depending on ambient air and incoming water temperatures. Water flows through the white plastic food zone so that scale and minerals cannot build up over time. To access this area, two screws must be removed, and the door must be lifted off. Major components can then be taken out of the unit for cleaning. A bin or dispenser must be bought separately from the ice head.
For ice production to begin, the toggle switch must be set to "ice," and the water curtain must be closed. Water cools the refrigerant lines, which in turn cool the evaporator. It then runs over the evaporator plate and freezes in the cells as it chills. Once water flows over the ice thickness float switch for a long enough time, it shuts off and turns on the harvest cycle. This action stops the refrigerant lines from cooling the evaporator, warming it enough for the ice cubes to fall off into a bin or dispenser.

How It Works
Water curtain must be closed and the toggle switch turned to "ice"
Water purge cycle removes water from the trough
Refrigerant lines cool the evaporator plate
Evaporator plate is chilled, freezing water in the cells
Water flows over the ice thickness float switch
Ice sheet thickness is measured by the harvest float switch
Evaporator plate is heated by refrigerant to release the ice cubes
