The Koolaire KYT-1000W ice machine can produce 860 pounds of half-cube ice every 24 hours. This type is ideal for many beverages since it cools them quickly, but it also melts faster than full-cube ice. The white plastic in the food zone can be accessed for cleanup once two screws and its door are removed. Additional components are removable for more thorough cleaning. On the exterior of the machine, a coating resists corrosion and smudges.
For ice to be made, the toggle switch should be set to "ice," and the water curtain must be closed. Refrigerant lines are cooled with water before they run over the evaporator to cool it. Once chilled, the evaporator freezes water in its individual cells. After a certain amount of time, the flowing water flips an ice thickness floater switch to halt the process. Ice thickness is measured by a harvest probe, and when these readings are ideal, the probe shuts off the water flow. When the refrigerant lines are not chilled, the evaporator eventually warms up enough to release its ice into a bin or dispenser (which must be purchased separately).

How It Works
Toggle switch must be set to "ice" while the water curtain is closed
Purge cycle removes water from the trough
Water-cooled refrigerant lines
Refrigerant lines chill the evaporator plate
Water runs over the evaporator plate and freezes in the cells
Ice thickness float switch turns off the water flow
Ice thickness is monitored by the harvest probe so it knows when to shut off cold air
Evaporator plate is slightly heated to release ice
